Although it’s generally not harmful to the kitten to have the placenta attached for a short while (because nothing is moving through the cord), it’s preferable to cut the cord and remove the placenta when you can. Do you cut the umbilical cord off a kitten?
The umbilical cord will already be clotted off so you don’t need to worry about clamping it. Don’t cut too close to the kitten’s tummy. I would leave 3/4-1″ of cord. Good luck with your new babies.
