What is routine neutering?
Important for non-breeding pets, neutering reduces the risk of diseases such as cancer, removes the risk of problems with the reproductive organs and accidental pregnancy. Neutering is a routine procedure at all our surgeries, and our vets will discuss the most appropriate neutering timescale and approach for your pet.
How long does neuter take to heal?
Most spay/neuter skin incisions are fully healed within about 10–14 days, which coincides with the time that stitches or staples, if any, will need to be removed. Bathing and swimming. Don’t bathe your pet or let them swim until their stitches or staples have been removed and your veterinarian has cleared you to do so.
How are dogs neutered?
Neutering, or castration, is the surgical removal of a male dog’s testes. Also performed under general anesthesia, it is a simpler surgery than a spay. An incision is made near the front of the scrotum, then the testicles are removed through that incision.
Is neutering included in pet insurance?

What’s the best way to recover from a spay / neuter?

What kind of incision is needed to neuter a dog?
For a normal dog neuter, a single incision is made directly in front of the testicles and scrotum. Dogs with undescended testicles, a condition known as cryptorchidism, will experience a procedure more similar to a canine spay, in which the veterinarian will likely have to cut open the abdomen to find the testicles.
What happens during a dog neuter and castration?

How is the skin cleanser used for neutering a dog?
After the dog is under anesthesia, the vet techs or veterinarian shave the surgical area and scrub using a skin cleanser. The scrubbing is done in a circular motion, starting small at the incision area, and widening out with each circular stroke. This ensures that the incision area is as clean as possible.
