Each year, National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day on April 30th raises awareness for thousands of pets that are waiting for (and needing) adoption from the shelters. Animal shelters require year-round assistance and adoption is a part of the process.

What to expect when you bring home a shelter cat?
Your new cat has had a rough day already, and will probably be stressed by the time you bring him home. He is most likely used to the closed environment of a shelter cage, so it would be best to keep him confined in a small safe room for the first few days, especially if there are other cats in the house.

Where to put cat shelter in the winter?
Even something as simple as putting your shelter on top of a wood pallet will do. Make sure to place the shelter in a safe place, away from high areas of foot and car traffic.
How long do you keep a kitten from a shelter?
If you have other cats, keep your new kitty in this room for at least one week. Cats coming from a shelter may have picked up some common diseases. It’s best to give them a week to acclimate away from your pets to make sure they are healthy and give them time to decompress.

How does home at last dog rescue work?
We are not a shelter, and we have no central location for the dogs we rescue. We pull dogs from various shelters and provide foster homes until they are adopted. In doing so, we hope to provide an alternative to the purchase of puppy mill and pet store dogs, thereby reducing the demand for, and ultimately, the supply of, such dogs.

What’s the adoption fee for home at Last Dog Rescue?
The adoption fee for puppies between 8 weeks to 6 months is $400 and for any dog more than 6 months old is $350. Some of our dogs are designated as benefactor dogs. These dogs have a higher adoption fee of $650 and the additional fee collected helps fund expensive surgeries for medical dogs that w have. This is notated in the bio of the dog.
